Sticky situation/Situation... collante

Posted on 3/29/2008 by Myriam Moret

You make sushi with it and mix it with some rice vinegar and all and it does take some of the stickiness out but japanese rice is sticky. I'm used to it by now and since you can only find the Japonica variety of rice here, one has to eat it and shut up. They do sell indianica varieties in some fancy import shops but my liking for Jasmine rice doesn't quite go as far as spending almost CAD$25/kg on it.

Tonight (as often) I was feeling lazy for dinner and I was gonna eat by myself so I decided to just grab a bowl of plain cooked rice at 7/11 and eat it with some leftover curry. Well japanese rice is sticky, 7/11's rice is STICKY! For a moment I thought I'd need surgical removal to take off the few grains sticking to my fingers and I managed to lift the entire "block" of rice out of the bowl by sticking the back of a spoon on top of it.  But when you're hungry, you're hungry so I ate the thing with the curry that was making it somewhat palatable and it fell like a brick in my stomach. Now I'm not feeling so good... the lesson to be learned: Don't trust 7/11 with your dinner. :S

**************************************************

Its like you read my mind! You appear to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a bit, but instead of that, this is excellent blog. A great read. I'll definitely be back.
